Today, Jan. 16, 2022, is the Sanctity of Life Sunday. Our parishioners, the Pandorf family, participated in NJ March for Life this past week.    Christians have always maintained that life is precious and sacred from the time of our conception to the time of our death. Since this life is a gift from God, out of His goodness and graciousness, only He, and He alone, can take it away.
No person, no matter how noble, and for no reason, no matter the justification, can take away their own life or a life of another person. Life miraculously begins at conception, therefore abortion is a wicked act of murder. The willing neglect of the poor and the needy, and even the creation of circumstances that worsen their living situations, are all likewise acts of murder. Capital punishment is an act of murder. It is not justice, even of the law justifies and protects it. Euthanasia, which is becoming a more prevalent topic in our public discord, is an act of murder and suicide. Life is God's gift to us, a gift that we receive having done nothing. We are only the stewards of this gift; and eventually we will have to answer for how well we took care of this free gift. Be thankful and rejoice in this gift, protect your life and the lives of your neighbors, glorifying One God in Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Quite a few people braved the snowy weather to celebrate the Birth of our Savior. Afterwards, we continued our celebration with a warm fellowship. Christ is born!     A blessed Feast of Saint Nicholas! This year's Yolka (Christmas performance) was organized, directed, and narrated by Emma Pandorf. We want to give our young people a few extra responsibilities, and Emma delivered with a great Yolka! Great job, Emma! At the end of the performance, as the children were singing "O who loves Nicholas the saintly," our parish was visited by a very special guest - Saint Nicholas himself! And he brought a box full of presents. A blessed feast indeed!                          On Saturday, Nov. 6, our Church School children decorated cookies for the Annual Parish Thanksgiving Dinner for next Sunday, Nov. 14. They also worked on their Trees of Thanks, writing on leaves things they are thankful for. The trees will be used to decorate tables at the Thanksgiving Dinner.                     Saint John's men's group, the Singac Cossacks, spent a nice and foggy Saturday decking the halls, both outside and inside. Men, job well done!               Procession with icons and children's sermon on the significance of icons. As the Prophets beheld, as the Apostles taught, as the Church received, as the Teachers dogmatized, as the Universe agreed, as Grace illumined, as the Truth revealed, as falsehood passed away, as Wisdom presented, as Christ awarded, thus we declare, thus we affirm, thus we proclaim Christ our true God and honor His saints, in words, in writings, in thoughts, in sacrifices, in churches, in holy icons. On the one hand, worshipping and reverencing Christ as God and Lord. And on the other hand, honoring and venerating His saints as true servants of the same Lord. This is the Faith of the Apostles. This is the Faith of the Fathers. This is the Faith of the Orthodox. This is the Faith, which has established the Universe.             On Sunday, December 15, we were happy to host the Halsell family from Saint Vladimir's Seminary, whom our parish sponsored for Saint Nicholas Wish List Project organized by FOCA (R Club). Katrina Fett organized and ran the project for our parish. After the Liturgy, the kids presented a Yolka performance on the life of Saint Nicholas. After that, Saint Nicholas himself visited us with presents! Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!                   This year, the Great Feast of Pentecost, when the Church celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit, also coincided with Father's Day. After the Festal Liturgy and Vespers with kneeling prayers, we sang "Many Years!" to all fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and uncles. Sunday School bought presents for all the men of our parish - barbecue sauce! (This will be one of the greatest grilling seasons ever.) Also, Maryann celebrated her birthday and two of our Sunday School students, who missed end of school year celebration last week, received their presents. Glory to God for all things! Blessed and joyful Pentecost season to all!     Christ is risen! On Sunday, May 12, we celebrated the Feast of Holy Myrrh-bearing Women, Mother's Day, and birthdays of Nadezhda and Slavica. Sunday School children made a wonderful present for all the ladies of the parish - begonia plants! Father Aleksey spoke with children about the courage, faith, and love of the holy myrrh-bearers and how our mothers share the same qualities. At the end of the Liturgy we took a group photo of our women. In short, we had another wonderfully busy day here. Glory to God for all things!          |
