Happy birthday! Many and blessed years! When we were buried with You in Baptism, O Christ God, We were made worthy of eternal life by Your Resurrection! Now we praise You and sing: Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is He that comes in the Name of the Lord! Happy birthday, and many and blessed years to Justine LaMonaca (holding her son PJ), Alex Girard, Violet Gatch, and Sophia Girard.
Lord's blessings to you all! On the First Sunday of Great Lent, Feb. 25, when we celebrate the Triumph of Orthodoxy, at the end of the Divine Liturgy, our children processed around the church holding the holy icons, in imitation of the procession that happened in 843 when the veneration of icons was restored.
For history of this feast and the events surrounding it, see here and here. For a sermon of the feast, click here. Have a listen to a new podcast from Ancient Faith Podcasts. It is mainly meant to be for young adults, about young adults, and by young adults, but people of all age will benefit from hearing their journey; not only of conversion, but also a journey of faith while being Orthodox Christian. The description of the Podcast series: Why do some young adults leave the Church, while others stay engaged? Rather than guess, we’ll interview young adults for an important conversation that highlights real stories and real struggles. "We Are Orthodoxy" empowers young adults to speak for themselves and to tell their own stories of faith and doubt. You can find the podcast here. "What's most fascinating is that Jasiel doesn't point to any program or youth group to have brought him into the Church, instead it was the Church being itself, offering a taste of transcendence that was just enough for Jasiel."
Two of the stalwarts of our parish celebrating their birthday - Judy Van Beesel and Walter Bacsik.
Happy birthday! Many and blessed years! The last Sunday when meat is allowed before the Great Lent we spent in style - by eating meat (and other great foods, and Mária's special bloody mary).
Blessed week to all! On Sunday, February 4, we had the second part of our Teaching Liturgy series, where Father Aleksey discussed practical and spiritual aspects of our liturgical prayers and actions.
At the end of the Liturgy, new blue covers, that were bought by St Anna Altar society for the parish, were blessed. After that, the new parish officers for 2018 received their blessing for the upcoming year that they may be good and faithful stewards for the Lord our God in the dedication of their time and talents to the welfare of His Holy Church. Birthday boys - Gregory Karol, our parish president, and Christopher Preciado.
Happy birthday and many years! Our newlyweds came to church for the first time as Mr and Mrs Romeo.
Many and blessed years! Birthday girl - Grozdana, our faithful reader and singer.
Anniversary couple - Richard and Elizabeth Gobeille, who celebrate 34 years of marriage. Their faith and dedication are an example to us all. Many and blessed years! Dear brothers and sisters,
Blessed Theophany to all! "Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters, and you that have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Listen, so that you may live." From the Book of Isaiah, chapter 55. Unexpected visit by our St Nicholas project seminary family, Daniel and Erin Vanderkolk with their two sons Nicholas and Christopher, and their friend Dimitrios Nikiforos, who celebrates his birthday.
And our own Stefania Porucznik celebrating her birthday as well.
Glorious, joyous, and blessed Feast of Christ's birth to everyone! It was truly a celebration today - Liturgy with a full house and a festal meal afterwards. We partook of the Lord's table at the Holy Communion and of the earthly table, which we, as a community, prepared for each other. Merry Christmas! С Рождеством Христовым! Birthday girls - Lily Allmendinger and Sophia (in her grandma Maryann's hands).
