Kids preparing some decorations for the Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday: Sundays' dinner and fellowship after the Divine Liturgy:
On Sunday, Nov. 12, we had our annual Thanksgiving Dinner and a first annual Homecoming Sunday.
A church is a House of God, and through Christ (at baptism) we have become children of God. So, every time we come to church, we come home. Homecoming Sunday is an outreach program designed for our parishioners to invite anyone they would like to experience the rich tradition of Orthodox Christian worship and the great hospitality of our parish. This year we had a few guests. Glory to God for all things! On Nov. 13 St John's celebrated Thanksgiving dinner. The day began with the Divine Liturgy, during which most of the parishioners partook of the most Holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Fr Aleksey delivered two sermons - one on thanksgiving, by reading the last sermon of the late Fr Alexander Schmemann. And kids sermon - on God's love for His creation and our gratitude for His mercy for us.
A big thank you goes out to all who helped us preparing for the dinner, to those who came to the dinner, to those who couldn't come for whatever reason, and to those who keep us in their prayers. Thank you! |
