Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. This year, Giving Tuesday is on December 3.
It was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give. You can read more here. Our #GivingTuesday (and beyond) campaignThere are many things people are looking forward to when they come to church - spending some time, intentionally, in the presence of God; lifting up our prayers individually, yet in union with the whole community; seeing the friendly and welcoming faces of others; and some basic comforts, such as clean pews (if the church has them), heating during the winter and air conditioning in the summer months.
Unfortunately, the air conditioning unit in our church broke down last summer, mostly because it was very old (it was installed in 1985!). Therefore, we are beginning a fundraising campaign for the new air conditioning unit that we hope to instal by the summer of 2020. We do not yet have an estimate for the new unit, but it most likely will be around $40,000, if not more. With the #GivingTuesday campaign, we are starting the process of fundraising. Obviously, this process will go beyond Tuesday, December 3, and our initial goal is to raise $5,000. You can donate in two ways: (1) online, but going here, and clicking on the "Donate" button. Please, make sure to specify in the comment box that it is for the "A/C fund." (2) or by sending a check to St John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church, 29 Weaver St, Little Falls, NJ 07424. In the memo field, likewise, specify that it is for the "A/C fund." Once a week we will update the goal thermometer to let you know how the fundraiser is doing. Above all, keep our church community in your prayers, and share this fundraising campaign on your social media. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. |
We are one-fifth of the the way there at $1050!
